Many individuals may view the Jamaica Debt Exchange Program (JDX) as highway robbery. It doesn’t matter what fancy term one used to describe it, a default have definitely occurred. The fact is that a contract had exist between the government and it’s creditors and for them to say that they will start paying one less for the money you have lent them is a clear breach.

The JDX is offensive but it’s working quite fine and this is because it was cleverly tied in to the negotiations with the IMF. No one including the banks had a choice. It was either you do it or face the consequences of the country not inking a deal with the IMF.

I hope one day I can walk in to a financial instution and say, “hey guys I don’t feel like paying you 18% anymore. As of x month I’m going to start paying you 10% even though we have a contract in place.

Everyone in Jamaica, I’m sure is familiar with the name Wilmot “Mutty” Perkins. Mutty is the number one day time radio talk show host in the country. He’s very knowledgeable on most subject matters, namely history, politics, current world affairs, the arts and his beloved Jamaica. He is cherished by the lower class in the society because they see him as their voice, but is he just an opportunist, who’s goal is to make money? The answer to that question is an easy one, he does care for the people.

There is no secret, he favours the present government, the JLP over the previous one, the PNP. As much as he tries to be objective, it’s clear that he is a labour man. One can only speculate because there is no definitive proof that he is or is not.

It’s said that over it’s 40+ years of operation, Air Jamaica has only made profit once. I’ve not verified this information but if that’s the case why is the Jamaican government selling the airline now? It should have been sold years ago. I know plenty of Jamaicans will disagree with my view, but let’s try to be objective people. Let’s all examine the facts and put emotions side.

The pilots association JALPA, has come up with an offer to buy out the airline. JALPA says they have the right business plan to make the airline company a successful one. If they did why didn’t they share it with the airline years ago. If they had done that Air Jamaica would not be in this present situation today. The airline would have been profitable and everyone would have been ok.

From a business stand point, I say sell the airline, it’s costing Jamaica and it’s few tax payers US$1 Billion per year. It’s not worth it. On the flip side, people are going to lose their jobs and I wish that wasn’t the case. I say blame it on the inefficiencies and the corruption in our politics.

In the end only the common man suffers…

The latest nonsense is another bi-election, which will cost the country another 30 million; substantial money that we can not afford.

Can somebody answer this question, when will the People’s National Party realized that they lost the general election nearly two years ago? Someone needs to tell them to wake up, it’s time to help move the country forward. The sad thing about all of this is that prosperity can only be achieved by getting rid of all these old politicians that are clueless and out of touch with the modern times we live in.

Since leading his party to power in the general election in 2007, Bruce Golding has faced a number of challenges that has turn his triumphant victory into a nightmare. The most pressing factor is the economic crisis that the world is now facing and the nightmare that the opposition party has promised him and the country. Moreso, we have seen this promised come to pass. There have been an unprecedented assault on our youths, one bi-election and a few more to come and the most disgusting of them all, the attack on our tourism sector.

Before we point any fingers we should always have evidence to substantiate any claims we make; however, it doesn’t take a genious to know that something is up with these recent attacks on tourists from Canada, our largest market, in terms of percentage growth.

Bruce Golding needs to get tough and leave his nice guy demeaner behind. The job will only get tougher and tougher. Hard decisions will have to be made and the Government needs to lead from the front and investigate what seems to be a worrying trend developing. If the local police can not do the job properly, then ask for help, Mr. Prime Minister.

So far Obama is leading in the early stages and although the election is too early to call, all factors are pointing to an Obama victory.

The breaking news coming in is that a plot to assassinate Presidential Hopeful Barack Obama has been foiled by law enforcements. According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) two neo-Nazi skinheads had plotted to kill Obama as well as decapitate or shoot 88 black people.

Court records unsealed today in the U.S. District Court in Jackson, Tenn., basically confirmed that federal agents had disrupted plans made by the two to rob a gun store and target a high school where African-American were predominant. Their viscous plan was to go on a murder spree that was to start in Tennessee. The ATF also said that the skinheads did not identify the school by name.

I appeal to everyone to make sensible decisions in the next few days. The stability of the United States and the world at large depends on the decisions Americans will make in the next few days. All those who have a vote, make sure you vote and vote right.
